Your starting point and location
A lookup sends the starting point you chose to this service. The service rounds it to a position about 200 m across, reads the live map around that position, and keeps the answer for up to 10 minutes so the next lookup nearby is quick. The answer is kept by place only, with nothing that identifies you. The application does not store your starting points, and does not send them to advertisers. Hosting and network providers process connection information such as IP addresses to serve and protect the site.
“Use my location” is optional and needs your browser’s permission. You can tap a point on the map or enter coordinates instead.
Maps
The map loads only after you choose to show it. By default it uses OpenStreetMap tiles, and the tile provider receives your IP address and the map area you view. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
When Google place search and Google Maps are switched on for this site, Google receives connection information, the searches you type and the map area you view. Choosing a suggestion fetches its address and coordinates from Google, and the coordinates go to this service for the lookup. Google features are subject to the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
Links such as “Open in Google Maps” and “Walking directions” open Google Maps with the location’s position, and your starting point when you chose one.
Advertising
Advertising spaces are switched off unless a sponsor or ad provider has been set up. When one is shown it is labelled, it sits apart from the list and the map, and it does not change which locations appear or how they are sorted. The application does not add your starting point to ad requests or sponsor links.
If Google AdSense is switched on, Google and its partners may use cookies, local storage, IP addresses and device information to serve and measure ads. Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are offered Google’s consent choices. You can read how Google uses information from partner sites and manage personalisation in My Ad Center.
Using this guide
Use the results to plan where to walk, then check the game when you arrive. Results are read from the live map and may be up to 10 minutes old, or older when the page says the live map can’t be reached. Raids, gym control and Max Battles change quickly. Distances are approximate straight lines, not walking routes.
Stay aware of your surroundings, keep to public places and follow local rules while you play.
